Ray Hudson’s comment on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s victory over Marseille is incredible

Ray Hudson provided another

iconic comment after Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s last goal against Marseille, describing the French team as “stretched like spandex on Miami Beach”.

After being outplayed by their Ligue 1 opponent in the first half, Spurs recovered from a 1–0 second-half deficit to qualify for the Champions League round of 16.

Clement Lenglet equalized for Antonio Conte’s side in the 54th minute before unexpected striker Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg secured first place in Group D.

It was a moment that produced this wonderful comment from Hudson, known for his incredible play on words.

He begins:

“Amazing scenes here of the Denmark international sweeping like Tarzan on the vine to catapult this home. Olympique de Marseille stretched like spandex on Miami Beach!”

It’s a line that elicits a characteristic chuckle from Micah Richards, who discussed the comment with fellow pundits Jamie Carragher and Thierry Henry.

Fans on social media loved the scenes. One said, “Wait the look on Henry’s face, he’s classic,” while another commented, “Ray Hudson is a god among men.”

A third simply wrote: “The man, the myth, the legend.”

Hudson, of course, has witnessed this all these years, but in 2019, the former Newcastle midfielder broke down in tears after a remarkable solo performance by Lionel Messi against Real Betis.

After receiving the ball on the edge of the penalty area, Messi gave goalkeeper Pau López a hard punch and the skill even received applause from the Betis fans.

“I think you have tears in your eyes, Raymond,” a colleague from beIN Sports commented as Hudson praised the brilliance.

Towards the end of the match, while talking about the chip, he says: “Messi does it in such a virtuoso way, we’ve seen him pull absolute howitzers out of that left foot over the years.

“The little man’s awesome power and then he’s an incredible dribbler and emasculates players one after another. In this situation he solves an algebraic situation in a short time.

“We look at the statistics that will follow, how many goals he has scored and in which games he has played. You can always mimic those stats, you can’t mimic that.”

Any thoughts on Hudson’s comment on Tuesday night’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg final against Marseille?
