India’s victory over Bangladesh in the Group 2 match of the T20 World Cup 2022 on Wednesday all but confirmed qualification for the semi-finals. Although there are still some permutations and combinations that Rohit Sharma & Co. can overlook, the win over Bangladesh gave their case a huge boost. At the same time, the result has seriously jeopardized Pakistan’s qualification chances. But all hope is not yet lost for Pakistan. Babar Azam & Co have two games left in the tournament and if some other results go their way they can still secure their ticket to the last four.

Scenario 2:Pakistan win both games (against South Africa and Bangladesh) and India lose to Zimbabwe by a wide margin, lowering their net run rate below that of Pakistan.

In practice, the second scenario seems incredibly less plausible compared to the first, although both scenarios are not the easiest for Pakistan to achieve.
Babar Azam’s side need to beat South Africa first on Thursday to stay afloat in the tournament. A loss to the Proteas would destroy all his hopes.
