Lucknow: Samajwadi Party candidate Dimple Yadav can file her nomination papers for Mainpuri Lok Sabha by-election today. Mainpuri SP District President Alok Shakya told PTI-language from Mainpuri, Dimple Yadav will file the form this afternoon. The by-election for this seat will be held on December 5 and the result will be announced on December 8. The process of filing nominations for this by-election has started and the last date is November 17. SP candidates have been elected in Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat since 1996. The seat fell vacant after the death of Mulayam Singh Yadav on October 10. Dimple Yadav contested against BJP candidate Subrata Pathak from Kannauj in 2019 and lost.
Meanwhile, Tej Pratap Yadav, former MP from Mainpuri, told reporters in Saifai that the nomination process would be easy. He said, “I think we are entering the election at a very difficult time. A month has passed since Netaji (Mulayam) and elections have been announced. We are fully prepared for this by-election. The people of Mainpuri have always shown their dedication towards furthering the socialist ideology and I hope we will win this election with a huge margin.” Asked about the two seats the SP lost out of the five assemblies- Mainpuri and Bhogaon, he said, “The margin of victory in one seat was 3600, while in the other it was 5000, but if you count all the seats, the number With SP.”

When asked about how the party will convince the disgruntled people, Tej Pratap Yadav said, “People have an emotional connect with Mulayam Singh Yadav ji. In these elections people will forget the past and vote for SP. Those who had not voted for SP earlier will also vote for SP in the name of Netaji. It is worth mentioning that the BJP has not yet announced the name of its candidate, while it is not yet clear whether the Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party of Congress, BSP and Shivpal will contest this election or not.
In the year 2019, SP Patron Mulayam Singh Yadav won the election from Mainpuri seat by a margin of 94,000 votes over his nearest rival Prem Singh Shakya of BJP. Dimple Yadav’s candidature is being seen as carrying forward the legacy of her father-in-law Mulayam Singh Yadav. Also, the selection of Dimple as a candidate is an attempt to unite the party workers. Akhilesh’s Karhal assembly seat is a part of Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency and is represented by Shivpal Yadav from Jaswant Nagar seat. Dimple Yadav was elected unopposed from this seat in 2012 after Akhilesh Yadav resigned from the Kannauj Lok Sabha seat to become the Chief Minister and go to the Legislative Council.
According to party sources, Yadavs are around 35 per cent of the total 12.13 lakh voters in Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency, while other voters include Shakyas, Thakurs, Brahmins, Scheduled Castes and Muslims. Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency consists of five Legislative Assemblies which include Mainpuri, Bhogaon, Kishni, Karhal and Jaswant Nagar. While the SP had won three seats – Karhal, Kishni and Jaswant Nagar – in the 2022 assembly elections, the BJP had won two seats – Mainpuri and Bhogaon.
