Gut reactions are immediate responses to a situation without taking the time to analyze the situation. It’s something that, as sports fans, we tend to do. Especially if you’re a full-blooded Yinzer, or even just a partial Yinzer. As usual, I collect my gut thoughts and post them immediately after every Steelers game (my son Kyle might have a few things to say, too). It’s my version of opening my mouth first and apologizing later (or not). So with that said, I’m going to use that philosophy here in week 7 of the NFL regular season. Time to rack up some wins!!!
1 quarter
The Steelers win the toss and the punt. Boswell to kick.
Grand entrance of Maulet.
The Steelers then give up a first down on second-and-19 plays.
Yeah, the area doesn’t look too good.
Kyle is upset that the Steelers don’t recognize run fakes, but the biggest problem is soft zone plays in the secondary.
And the Steelers give up the touchdown pass. So the offense will play from behind. Dolphins 7, Steelers 0.
Is anyone surprised that it was just a first-chance trade?
Kyle asked, since we’ve brought back the swiss cheese zone, we’re bringing back the double R double P…and also the offense. He runs, runs, passes, shoots.
And that was a terrible point of Big Press.
And again, the Dolphins pick up big yards and throw to the middle of the field.
This is going to get out of hand very quickly. I thought Buffalo’s game got out of hand quickly. This one will live up to that.
The Steelers managed to keep them out of the touchdown zone. The field goal makes it Dolphins 10, Steelers 0.
Claypool stumbles on the pass play and the pass is intercepted by the Dolphins. It doesn’t look good.
Wow, another wide open guy in the middle of the field.
I needed that faucet there.
The Dolphins have scored points on all three of their possessions. The Steelers have two possessions and have yet to make a first down. Dolphins 13, Steelers 0.
Hurrah! The Steelers finally got a first down.
End of the first quarter Dolphins 13, Steelers 0.
2. Fourth
The Steelers are down to 4th and less than a yard. Warren manages to pick up the first.
The momentum stops for the Steelers and Boswell tries to score. Dolphins 13, Steelers 3.
The Steelers defense got lucky with some passes that could have been caught and will go out of bounds.
The first down 5 yards behind the line of scrimmage loses 4 yards.
Good pitch and catch for Pickens.
That run by wide receiver Matt Canada went nowhere and drew a penalty.
Outside runs to the short side never seem to work.
Good run Kenny.
Najee is more like Najee.
George Pickens is great! Dolphins 13, Steelers 10.
How about a 32-yard gain down the middle again on the first down?
Kyle says……”Swiss Cheese” about the Steelers’ defense.
Cam Sutton should have had an interception!
Due to the missed interception, the Dolphins will attempt a field goal to end the half. It’s good and the Dolphins take a 16-10 lead.
Q3
Not a good start for the Steeler offense as they lose a yard on the first down and Pickett is sacked on the second down.
Good three and off offense to start the second half. That was sarcasm if you couldn’t say it.
Another 20+ yard pass plays down the middle.
The Dolphins will go after him on fourth and three inside the 20-yard line. The Steelers will fill him up and take over.
The Steelers get a first down, but that’s it and they give it back.
What if Terrell Edmonds throws an interception?
The Dolphins end up going 3 and out and want to give it back.
The Steelers are called for an ineligible receiver on the field. They’ve had a lot of those calls this year.
On the next play, Diontae is called for offensive pass interference. This unit is going the wrong way.
Penalties killed that series and the Steelers will punt. I wish we had seen some Steelers offense like we did at the end of last week’s game.
The defense keeps them to three and out again. The offense needs to get some points on the board.
Rock to Naj.
The end of the third quarter. Dolphins 16, Steelers 10.
fourth trimester
On third-and-one, the Steelers pass it directly to Najee, who returns to the lane. I would have liked to see Kenny sneak that. Great press to tip.
The defense stops the Dolphins AGAIN, but the offense needs to score points.
And the offense does not force to go punctually from three and out.
Good point there for Presley Harvin.
What can I say? The defense has really picked it up since the first quarter. They just need the attack to rack up enough points to win the game. The Steelers get the ball back.
The attack looks a bit better.
Pickett and Claypool weren’t on the same page there.
Claypool picks up the 3 and 10.
Another first down for Claypool.
The Steelers have a 3rd and 1 and are called for an illegal trade and now have a 3rd and 6.
And now they’re called to grab Dan Moore, so now it’s the third and the 16th.
The offense was in field goal range on third-and-16 plays and Pickett throws a poor interception.
Another abandoned wiretapping. It could have been 4 interceptions, but the Steelers actually have zero.
Pickett has a chance to be the hero with 2 minutes and 31 seconds left on the clock.
Seven yards per throw won’t give the Steelers the nearly 90 yards they need to win this game.
All the short shots… without making it.
MOUTH!
Good play by Diontae to get the first down and get off the pitch.
Pickett is intercepted in the end zone. The game is over.
Dolphins 16, Steelers 10. The defense played well enough to win and the offense never played supplemental football again.
