Callaway Hyperlite Zero Double Strap Stand Bag Tested

As a member of the prominent Isle of Purbeck Golf Club in Dorset, I often take out my clubs and have really benefited from using my new Callaway Hyperlite Zero Double Strap stand bag. I enjoy the speed of the game that going straight to the ball with the carry offers instead of taking the long route in a golf cart.

When I first picked up this empty bag, before adding my clubs, it was immediately clear why Callaway called it a Hyperlite. Weighing less than three bags of sugar (3 pounds), this truly is one of the lightest golf bags I’ve ever lifted, and even with all my clubs on board, it’s easy to transport. Part of the weight savings comes from the sleek carbon fiber legs, which look like a pair of graphite axes. Strong and stable with wide angled legs that allow the bag to stand upright even when slightly tilted. Occasionally, when I put it in a suboptimal position with no drinks or extra clothing inside and in strong winds, it would tip over, but that’s an unlikely scenario.

The Hyperlite has a very smart harness system that balances itself. A circular center pivot between the double straps basically adjusts to keep the bag straight on your back as you walk, preventing it from tipping over and your clubs from falling out. Not only was this very convenient, but it was great that I didn’t have to play around with the strap adjustment too much before hitting it on my first outing.

Although this bag comes in the single strap option, I am a big fan of the double strap as it distributes the weight evenly across the back, eliminating neck and shoulder strain. This one is actually very comfortable as it is very well padded, again in a clever way to pretty much conform to the shape of your shoulders.

There are seven pockets including a soft lined valuables pocket to keep your jewelry safe with a waterproof zipper and a handy phone sleeve on the outside. I found the long main side pocket to be a bit small to fit both my raincoat and winter gloves, but I daresay you’ll be wearing yours like I am if you wear them this time of year. On the other hand, if you plan on golfing in warm weather this winter and need a decent bag for your vacation flight, you have the advantage of being able to travel very light.

There’s a matching waterproof hood for the upper and although the material is rain resistant so rainwater can run off, it won’t keep your rackets completely dry on a day of persistent rain so make sure you bring your umbrella (sleeve down). Side). With four full-length stick spacers, you don’t have to worry about your rods hitting each other and getting scratched.

Callaway has left no stone unturned with this great stand bag design. My only question mark is about the durability of the thin, very light material that looks like it could rip very easily, but only time will tell. Check back with me in six months.
